Progress Isn’t Linear

Progress isn’t always linear. We think progress is a steady and gradually incline, but sometimes there are twists, turns, highs, and lows.

Looking at these images, we can see how achieving our goals isn’t one steady straight line, but rather, it ebbs and flows. Life happens, and we may have some set backs and may need to readjust our plan to get to our goals. For example, when it comes to losing weight, you may lose a considerable amount of weight in the beginning of your fitness journey, but then your body adapts and your weight eventually plateaus. I understand how frustrating it can be to feel like you’re at a standstill, however, plateaus can be used to reevaluate the plan and make necessary changes. Maybe your body is used to the exercises or you need to change up your macronutrients. Use this time to reflect on how you can do things differently. It’s not a time to give up!

During this process, it’s important to be compassionate and patient with yourself and have realistic expectations. Understand that it’s normal to hit plateaus or regress sometimes! It’s all a part of the process. Instead of looking at how far you have to go, look at how far you’ve come and how much progress you’ve made! Give yourself a pat on the back for taking the steps to reach your goals!
