Tips For Handling Anxiety During The Holidays

Hi fitness family! I know the holidays can be the most wonderful time of the year but also the most stressful time of the year. Here are some tips to handle overall anxiety and anxiety about food during the holidays!

  • Schedule “me” time! The relationship you have with yourself is the most important! Remember to schedule time for yourself, even it’s a 10 minute self-care activity or workout.
  • Set boundaries. If you have a time you want to leave or a drink limit, own it! Don’t let others overstep boundaries and make you feel uncomfortable!
  • Give yourself space. My introverted self needs to recharge from time to time, so I’ll go outside, take a nap, or squeeze in alone time.
  • Meditate. I’ve been meditating for years now, and it’s helped me so much with staying mindful. Don’t worry if you can’t get it right away. It’s a practice!
    • There are tons of meditation videos on Youtube and meditation apps!
  • Give yourself grace. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself! Sometimes we stress about holiday plans or the people we’re going to see. Do your best and make the best out of every situation!
  • A few indulgent holidays meals, snacks, and drinks are not going to derail you from your fitness goals. I’ve had many clients fear eating holiday meals because they were scared of gaining weight or being derailed from their progress. I’m here to tell you, eating these foods while spending time with your loved ones is not going to ruin your progress.
    • Thinking 1 meal is going to mess you up is like thinking 1 workout is going to instantly make you healthy. It doesn’t work that way!
  • Please enjoy yourself and of course, incorporate balanced healthy meals during this time too. If you know you’re going to have an indulgent dinner, then have a healthier breakfast and lunch!
  • Remember to stay hydrated! Being dehydrated does not help with anything, including anxiety.

I hope these tips help! Try them out and let me know how they go. Remember to be patient with yourself and others and to enjoy this special time!
