I don’t have a big sweet tooth, but I usually like eating something sweet after I’ve eaten something savory. Here are some of my go-to healthier sweet treats:
- Cottage cheese/greek yogurt with fruits and honey
- The cottage cheese and Greek yogurt have protein, and the fruits and honey add a bit of sweetness. You can also add agave or maple syrup instead of honey, or omit it altogether!
- Fruits – Fruits have antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Don’t worry about overeating fruit. I understand it has sugars, but they’re natural sugars.
- Smoothies – I love blending up fruits with protein powder!
- Protein shakes/protein bars – Not only do they satisfy your sweet tooth, but they’re packed with protein too.
- Granola – Add this to yogurt, eat it with milk, or eat it on its own!
- Oatmeal – I know this might not sound appetizing, but hear me out! I love adding chia seeds, peanut butter, and honey to my oatmeal. It’s the perfect mix of sweetness and texture.
- Frozen yogurt/protein ice cream – I really like the Yasso Greek yogurt bars and Halo Top protein ice cream! They’ve helped satisfy my sweet cravings, and have less calories and more protein than traditional ice cream!
- Popcorn – Popcorn without all the additives is a healthy snack. I love Boom Chicka Pop! It’s the perfect amount of sweetness without all the calories.
- Prepackaged snacks – Sometimes I can’t deny a chocolate peanut butter cup or plantain chips with chocolate drizzles. What helps me is eating it from a snack sized bag or container. Instead of buying a large bag of sweet treats, buy them already packaged in smaller sizes. You’ll be less likely to overeat, and you still balance healthy foods with sweets.
When it comes to eating healthy, it doesn’t have to be complicated or bland. There are plenty of delicious and healthy sweet treat options. It’s also important to balance healthy meals with the occasional cheat meal, sweet treat, or snack.
