I love summer! It’s sunny and warm, and I feel so alive! I use this boost in energy and motivation to push myself in my workouts. Working out in the summer has its challenges. We go on trips, hang out with loved ones, or it gets way too hot. Sometimes we aren’t able to stay consistent with our workouts. Here’s how I plan my workouts for summer time!
- Walking or exercising outside early in the morning or later in the evening – I love warm weather, but I personally hate when I get too hot while working out. I’ve been walking our dog earlier in the morning and later in the evening to avoid the heat. The sidewalk also gets too hot in the middle of the day so it’s safer for our dog’s paws too. If I take my workout outdoors, I’ll work out earlier in the morning and stay in the shade.
- Have a workout plan – Adhering to a workout program has helped me stay consistent, all year round. I currently have 4 strength training days and walk 8000 steps every day.
- Be flexible – Plans, whether expected or unexpected, happen! It’s okay to change up your workout routine or move your workout to another day if you’re not able to do it on that particular day.
- Drink plenty of water – Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! I can’t say this enough. I’ve even added electrolytes to my water on heavy lifting days because I know I’ll be sweating more.
- Keep it cool – We don’t have central AC in our apartment so we try to keep it cool as possible by closing the blinds and turning on the fan or portable AC unit. Keeping the room cool has helped me sleep better at night and ultimately recover better.
- Stay active even while on vacation – Sometimes it can be challenging to work out while you’re away, and it’s okay! If I can’t get a workout in, then I aim for 10,000 steps while traveling. If possible, I’ll try to do activities like biking, hiking, or swimming. If the hotel has a gym, then I’ll get a quick workout in. Something is always better than nothing!
