From holiday parties to festive snacks and colder and darker weather, it can be really tough to stay fit and healthy this season. Of course I want you to enjoy everything this holiday season has to offer, but that doesn’t mean your health and fitness should be put on the back burner! I’m all about balance 😄 Here’s how you can still maintain your gains and enjoy the holidays!
- Stay active throughout the day – Don’t underestimate a 5 minute walk or even cleaning around the house. Every minute of movement adds up!
- Drink plenty of water – I get it, it’s cold and sometimes we might not be very thirsty, but your body still needs water.
- Drink a glass of water right when you wake up.
- For every alcoholic drink, drink a glass of water.
- Drink a glass of water before and after every meal.
- Schedule your workouts – Whether it’s a gym session, a personal training session with me, or a class, put the workout in your calendar and honor it!
- Make it a group activity – Invite your family and friends for a walk before or after dinner, bowling, or miniature golf. Make it a fun physical activity where everyone can join!
- Eat slowly and without distractions – I know this can be challenging to do in a social setting, but eating slowly and staying focused on what you’re eating can prevent you from overeating!
- Eat balanced healthy meals throughout the day and week – If you have a holiday dinner party, then eat healthier for breakfast and lunch. It’s all about balance!
- Get enough sleep – I know parties can run late, but try to get 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Sneak in a 20-30 minute nap if you must!
- Get some sunlight – Getting sun allows us to get vitamin D and some much needed fresh air. It’s also a great mood booster!
- Make time for yourself – Being more of an introvert myself, I get tired after so much socializing. Make sure to spend time with yourself and doing what you love! Having a hobby or two helps a lot!
- Show yourself compassion – One holiday meal or two is not going to derail you from your goals or destroy your progress, just like how one salad or healthy meal is not going to instantly make you healthy.
