Hi fitness family! I haven’t done a personal post in a while so I thought it was time for an update! A few weeks ago, my boyfriend PJ and I started working out at 5 AM which is the earliest we’ve ever worked out. We wake up around 4 AM, take our dog Boba out, and get ready to hit the gym. We decided to work out early just as an experiment, and now we’re nearly 3 weeks in! We wanted to try it and see how it went. It’s more convenient for PJ to work out before work, and I don’t mind starting my day with a workout before I train clients. I know what you’re thinking, 5 AM is too early, but here’s how it’s going so far:
- It’s been an amazing start to our day! We usually feel really sleepy at first, but once we get to the gym and start working out, it feels great! We feel so energized and refreshed.
- We’ve been beating traffic since it’s so early in the morning. Plus we get parking really close to the gym every time hehe.
- I don’t have to worry about scheduling my workouts in between my sessions. I have more flexibility with my schedule, but since I get my workout done early, I don’t have to worry about it the rest of the day!
- I’ve gained more time. Since I work out first thing in the morning, I have the rest of the day to train clients and create content! I’m really enjoying the extra time to work on fitness content.
- I do find sleeping earlier to be a challenge. We’re naturally night owls, but we’re gradually starting to sleep earlier so that way we have enough rest and recovery for our early morning workouts.
- Now that I have a little extra time in my day, I’ll take a nap if I’m really tired. Working out is important, but recovery is where the gains happen so prioritizing recovery is key!
- It’s been fun working out with PJ. We would usually work out on our own, but we’ve been doing Macrofactor workouts together! We’ll alternate and/or superset the exercises and motivate each other!
- I’ve trained clients at 5 or 5:30 AM, but it’s so different than training myself. When I train a client, I’m not only getting paid for the session but my client is also depending on me for the workout. My own personal early morning workouts require more will power lol.
Overall, we’ve been enjoying our early morning workouts! It still feels a bit weird to wake up and hit the gym while it’s still dark out, but starting our day with exercising has been the best decision we’ve made. If you can’t get a work out in that early – don’t worry! The best time to work out is the time you make to work out!
