“May is the month of expectation, the month of wishes, the month of hope.”
— Emily Brontë
I’m biased since May is my birthday month so it happens to be my favorite month! This month, I celebrated my birthday. I had a very relaxed morning with a walk on the beach and a smoothie from Erewhon. At night, I had a double date with my boyfriend and our friends in WeHo! We tried out Casa Madera for the first time, and it was amazing! The ambience was stunning and the food was delicious. It was also our first time trying a Tomahawk steak, and I still dream of it to this day. After dinner, we ended up at Saddle Ranch, where my friend and I rode a mechanical bull! We all had so much fun and made memories that will last forever. The day after my birthday is mine and my boyfriend’s 3 year anniversary so we had a nice dinner to celebrate! It’s crazy how fast time flies.
May also marks 4 years since my maternal grandmother (Ba Ngoai) passed away. I spent time with my family around the time of her anniversary. We had pho and then I visited my grandparents’ graves. My maternal grandfather passed away before I was born, and I really wish I got to meet him. As for my grandmother, I miss her all the time. I spent so much time with her growing up. After school, I’d always go to her house, where she’d make the most amazing food and show me so much love! Because of her, I know have so many precious memories. It was great to pay her and my grandfather a visit and spend time with family to celebrate her life!
Towards the end of the month, I met up with my family in NYC! My sister is going to Columbia so we flew out there to help her move! It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun! Half the day was spent helping her move and the other half of the day was spent doing touristy activities. We ate tons of food, from bagels, pizza, tacos, ramen, and kbbq. We even got 15,000 – 20,000 steps a day! It was definitely a whirlwind, but we all had a great time! I’m so happy we were able to help her move and enjoy ourselves too.
May was a great and fulfilling month! My birthday, anniversary, and trip to New York really set the tone for summer! I can’t wait to see what June has in store.
