As a trainer of nearly 10 years, one of the biggest reasons people tell me why they can’t work out is that they don’t have enough time! Hate to break it to you, but you may have more time than you think!
There are 24 hours in a day and 168 hours in a week. A 30 minute workout is 2% of our day, and a 60 minute workout is 4% of our day. Sometimes it may feel like we never have enough time to get everything done, but in reality, we may be doing things like scrolling on social media or watching too much TV which takes up time we could be using to get ourselves fitter and healthier. I’m guilty of spending too much time on my phone. Are there things you can cut back on to make time to work out or do one extra thing that can benefit your health?
Here are some tips for managing your time well so you can take extra care of yourself and your body!
- Track your time for at least 2 – 3 days
- In 15-30 minute increments, track what you’re doing and how long it takes you.
- Review what you’ve been doing and decide if the activity requires that much time to complete or if it’s necessary or can be delegated.
- Look at where you may have extra time.
- Ask yourself these 3 questions:
- What activities can be more efficient?
- For example, instead of going to multiple grocery stores multiple times a week, do one large grocery haul one day of the week. Try meal prepping a majority of your meals on Sunday so you have food for the rest of the week. Walk while on your work call.
- Where can decisions be set it and forget it?
- If grocery shopping or meal prepping is tough, you can try a grocery or meal prep delivery service.
- Set reminders for your workouts or even drinking water.
- Schedule your workouts in your calendar, and honor this time for yourself!
- Where are there opportunities to be healthy?
- Drink an extra glass of water.
- Stretch during your work breaks.
- Take the stairs.
- Snack on veggies and fruits.
- There are tons of opportunities throughout the day to be healthy! They can be quick and simple!
- What activities can be more efficient?
I invite your to track how you spend your time for the next few days. Think of tracking your time like you’re tracking your expenses. You might be surprised by the extra time you’ll find!
