I know, I know. You’ve probably heard so many trainers talk about getting enough protein and how important it is, but we only talk about it so much because it’s true! I find that getting protein in our diet can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be! Here’s a list of my go-to protein sources!
- Chicken or other lean meats like fish – Chicken breast is a staple in our household. We also love eating tilapia!
- Lean beef – We try to get lean beef so it’s still high in protein but lower in fat.
- Eggs – Quick and easy to make, eggs are so versatile. You can have them poached, scrambled, or boiled!
- Deli meat – These can put in a sandwich or eaten as a snack!
- Jerky – Jerky is easy and convenient, and I love having jerky sticks as an on-the-go snack.
- Tofu – Tofu is also so versatile! You can add veggies or make it into a stew!
- Legumes/beans – There are packed with fiber and protein – a win win!
- Protein bar – I love keeping these in my bag. If I’m hungry or have a busy day, I’ll eat one in between sessions.
- Protein shake – If you need help getting protein in, these are perfect! They usually range from 20 to sometimes 40 g of protein so if you’re struggling to hit your protein goals, a protein shake can help! Again these are supplements, and I much prefer eating protein, but protein shakes come in handy!
- High protein milk – We recently bought Costco’s version of Fairlife milk, and it’s been amazing! We add it into our coffee, or I’ll have it in my cereal. It’s slightly higher in protein compared to regular milk and it’s lactose free in case you’re lactose intolerant.
- Greek yogurt/Cottage cheese – Another staple in our refrigerator, we love eating Greek yogurt or cottage cheese with berries and honey! It’s a high protein sweet treat.
Hitting your protein goals doesn’t have to be difficult! I try to include protein in each of my meals and snacks. Try out one or all of these foods, and let me know which is your favorite!
