I can’t believe July 4th is this Saturday! It’s such a fun time eating and socializing. This holiday might include barbeques and indulgent foods, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be healthy this 4th of July! Here are some healthy food hacks for your next July 4th BBQ.
- Swap traditional dips for Greek yogurt-based dips
- Try using Greek yogurt or cottage cheese as a base for your dips. You’ll still get that creamy texture with added protein.
- Make your own guacamole
- Avocados have tons of healthy fats and fiber, and by making your own guacamole, you can make it healthier than store bought ones.
- Add in veggie sticks
- Pair your chips and dip with celery, carrots, or bell peppers. You can still enjoy your chips while getting in some extra fiber and nutrients.
- Grill more veggies
- Asparagus, zucchini, onions, or veggie skewers are easy to throw on the grill and another great way to add fiber to your plate.
- Corn and bell peppers are also so delicious on the grill!
- Add in salads
- Another amazing way of adding veggies and greens is by making a salad! They’re also really refreshing on a warm day. You can even add some berries and other fruits to make the salads even more delicious.
- You can also make your own dressing!
- Choose lean protein options
- Grill meats like chicken breast, shrimp, or fish are high in protein and less in fat.
- I love chicken and shrimp on skewers!
- Include a fruits as dessert
- A fruit salad or fruit platter is a refreshing, naturally sweet option to balance out heavier desserts.
- Berries and melons are delicious and make a great sweet treat for summer BBQ’s!
- Stay hydrated
- Water, sparkling water, or flavored water can help you stay cool and hydrated throughout the day.
- If you’re drinking alcohol, have a glass of water for every alcoholic beverage you drink!
Adding these to your BBQ is a simple way to get in more fiber, protein, and hydration without missing out on the fun.
Remember, it’s okay to indulge and enjoy yourself during the holiday. It’s all about balance and moderation. One meal won’t make you instantly unhealthy just like one workout won’t make you instantly fit.
