Winter Workout Motivation

Maybe the excitement of the new year has faded, or it’s gotten so cold that the thought of working out sounds dreadful. The colder weather and shorter days of winter can affect our motivation to work out (or even be productive for that matter).

Here’s what I’ve learned – you’re not always going to be motivated, and you don’t need to wait for motivation to work out. It’s about showing up any way, even if you don’t feel like it. Even small steps towards your goals are still steps! Showing up and staying consistent are what’s going to get you to your goals.

Want to stay locked into your fitness routine this winter? Here are some tips to help you stay consistent with your workouts this season!

  1. Schedule your workouts
    • Schedule your workouts like a meeting with yourself. You’re not going to cancel on yourself!
  2. Have “movement snacks”
    • Every bit of activity adds up. A 10 minute walk in the morning, a 10 minute stretch, or even vacuuming or doing chores all count as activity!
  3. Get a friend to join you or work with a trainer
    • Have a friend join you in a workout or class. Working with a trainer (me hehe) can help you stay accountable!
  4. Remind yourself of your fitness goals
    • When I feel like skipping a workout, I remind myself that my goals are to be healthy and strong. I then ask myself what small action can I take right now to help me get there?
  5. Remember how feel good it feels after your workout
    • Post workout endorphins are the best! Remind yourself how amazing it feels after working out or getting movement in!
  6. Make it fun
    • Maybe you’re bored of your routine. Try switching up exercises, machines, stretches, or classes you attend. It’s nice to spice things up once in a while!
  7. Try something new
    • Is there an activity or new trail you’ve been wanting to try? Go for it! It’s good to change up your routine.

You won’t always be motivated to work out, and that’s okay! These tips can help you stay consistent even in the cold winter months!
