Goal Setting

Hi friends! We’re officially in Q4 which means we only have a few months left of 2024! Gosh, where has time gone?! I understand some of us may be anxious about hitting our goals before the year ends and/or worried about goals for the new year! No worries! There is still time to hit your goals and set yourself up for 2025. The sooner you get focused and have a plan, the more successful you’ll be!

Let’s go over SMART. This is used to make sure the goals we’re creating are well yes, smart, but also if they’re realistic.

S – Is your goal specific? For example, instead of just saying you want to work out more, you can make it more specific by saying you want to work out at least 2 times a week.

M – Is your goal measurable? For example, you can track how many times a week you’re working out. Or if you trying to lose or gain a certain amount of weight, you can also track that too. When it’s measurable, you’re able to track progress!

A – Achievable – Is your goal realistic? This can get tricky, especially when it comes to weight goals. Sometimes the weight we want may not be realistic and actually be really unhealthy. I’ve had clients want to be back at their high school weight, but they were teenagers at that time! Our bodies were very different then than they are now. Make sure your goal is realistic. Start small! That way you can always build up!

R – Relevant – Is your goal relevant? Fitness encompasses so many things. Sometimes I have clients with multiple goals, but the goals don’t always go hand in hand. As much as you want to run a marathon and powerlift as heavy as possible, these goals are different, therefore their training is going to be different. You need to make sure this goal is relevant to the overall outcome and relevant to you! This is your goal and should also relate to you!

T – Time-bound: Does this goal have a deadline? When do you want to achieve this goal by? When I meet new clients, sometimes they don’t have a deadline. They’ll tell me they want to be fit and maintain it for as long as they live, which is great! However, I don’t specifically know what “fit” means to them and having a deadline or date to achieve it by helps motivate you to keep up with all the actions and habits that lead you to your goal!

As you reflect on the goals you set for 2024 and think of the goals for 2025, use the SMART acronym to help you! I’ve used this for myself and clients, and it has helped so much!
