Hi there! For this month’s newsletter, I talked about rest and recovery. We prioritize nutrition and exercise but put stress management and rest last. In this post, I’ll go over filling your cup, or in this case, filling your recovery tank!
This image is from Precision Nutrition. Recovery is more than just resting, it involves sleep, hobbies, recreational activities, spending time with others, spending time in nature, and practicing mindfulness. It’s great if you’re eating well and crushing your workouts, but it’s important to give your body rest and have some fun too! High stress and cortisol levels can prevent you from reaching your goals.
You can decrease stress levels and improve your recovery in these 3 ways.
1. On the recovery side, you want to do more of those activities like sleeping well and meditating so you continue filling your tank.
2. On the stress side, you want to decrease any of these stressors such as financial stress or alcohol or drug use so you can “pour out” these stressors.
3. You can also increase recovery and decrease stressors. For example you can sleep well, meditate, spend time with friends, and spend time in nature as well as decreasing financial stress, loneliness, and alcohol and drug use.
Overall, please remember to take care of yourself and fill your cup! Our bodies take care of us so it’s important we take care of our bodies too!
